Citizen launches three new models in its Attesa Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS watch series.

Like previous models in the celestial-themed series, the new watches are designed in cooperation with the Hakuto-R commercial lunar exploration program. Citizen provides its Super Titanium alloy to the space program as a component of the landing legs for its next mission. The lander for Mission 2 is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2024.

All of the new models are Eco-Drive Atomic Timekeeping watches equipped with Direct Flight, a Citizen technology that allows easy adjustment of the time and date in 24 time zones with a twist of the crown.

One of the three new watches, Attesa model CC4065-61Y, features a full mother-of-pearl dial, the first found in the Attesa collection. Citizen layers mother-of-pearl over a colorful dial base metal, evoking patterns that echo the moon’s surface. Elsewhere on the dial, Citizen applies materials with different textures to approximate the look of a moonlit night.

And this model is the only one among the new debuts to be fitted with Citizen’s premium F950 movement boasting accuracy to ±5 seconds per month , which is capable of receiving time signals in as little as three seconds.

The other two debuts are set with Citizen’s Eco-Drive Atomic Timekeeping Cal.H874, which clocks in with a rated accuracy of ±15 seconds per month.

Each of the other debuts, Model BY1008-67L and Model BY1009-64Y, also offer moon-themed dials, Here Citizen uses textured ink on the dial create distinctive lunar patterns.

One model offers a blue-tinged dial and a silvery moon with a 41.5mm Super Titanium case in gray DLC while the other links rose gold tones and black DLC on its 41.5mm case. The latter model also displays metallic pink accents inspired by the color of cherry blossoms.

Franck Muller celebrates the Lunar New Year with a trio of Vanguard watches that display traditional symbolism with modern design. The watchmaker’s new Vanguard Dragon Slim Skeleton Limited Edition is a collection of three gem-set white gold watches that celebrate the year of the dragon in decidedly colorful form.

One of three Franck Muller Vanguard Dragon Slim Skeleton Limited Edition models.

You’ll find the namesake dragon beautifully engraved into the rotor made visible through the back of the watch, seemingly protecting the watch as it hugs the rotor of the skeletonized automatic movement.

The series offers a choice of three sapphire caseback crystal color options: red, green or clear.

On the dial of each watch Franck Muller places its well-known set of playful Color Dreams numerals.

The numerals are gem-set on two models atop a red or green partial dial plate and are rendered in bright colors atop a model with a polished steel dial plate. The back hue matches the front on each limited edition model.

Franck Muller’s artisans hand-decorate each in-house skeleton movement, highlighting the three-dimensional layout of the caliber.

The watchmaker will make ten pieces in white gold for each Vanguard Dragon Slim Skeleton Limited Edition reference, available only at Franck Muller boutiques across the Asia Pacific region. Price upon request.

Piaget revisits the golden age of Polo with the new Piaget Polo 79, a karat gold ode to the jet-setting original.

The new Piaget Polo 79

At 38mm in diameter, the new Polo is slightly larger than the 34mm original but retains the Polo’s very chic 1970s vibe. While many of that era’s high-profile luxury sport watches were cased in steel, the Piaget Polo remained an all-precious-metal model.

Like the reigning steel-cased watches of the 1970s, Piaget’s Polo also featured a bracelet that seamlessly linked to the case, with Polo’s brushed and polished gold bracelet links apparently extending across the dial, offering a pleasing uniform pattern around the wrist.

Piaget designed the Polo to mimic a ‘second skin’ that made its bracelet appear
to have been sculpted from a single piece of gold.

Piaget eventually offered its gold Polo in a variety of shapes, all with precious metal cases and bracelets.

Initially fit with Piaget’s record-breaking ultra-thin 7P quartz movement, the watchmaker in the early 1980s began to offer Polo with its ultra-thin mechanical caliber 9P, which was fit into a wide range of Polo models for years to come.

The new iteration sees Piaget returning to its most classic Polo design, now updated with Piaget’s latest ultra-thin mechanical caliber, the excellent 1200P1 automatic movement.

And in addition to the slightly larger 38mm case diameter, the new Polo 79 exposes its nicely finished caliber through a modern sapphire caseback.

Price: $73,000.

Nomos addresses the question of which dress watch to wear with three new options, all of them thin, attached to black leather and sporting a rich black dial.

Impressive at any formal event, any watch from the new trio in the Nomos Orion Neomatik collection brings with it an automatic movement, a very clean black galvanized dial with small-seconds subdial and gold and/or silver accents.

The Nomos Orion Neomatik 39 New Black

The new watches arrives in a choice of three diameter sizes: 36.4mm (the Orion Neomatik New Black) , 38.5 mm (the Orion Neomatik 39 New Black) and 40.5mm (the Orion Neomatik 41 New Black).

The Nomos Orion Neomatik 41 Date New Black

The smaller model (pictured below) is a thin 8.5mm in height while the mid-size model measures mere 8.7mm in height.

Nomos employs its superb DUW 3001 automatic caliber to power both these models.

The larger edition is the only model of the three to include a date window, which is part of the automatic caliber DUW 6101 that includes a date ring along the outside of the movement.

The date itself appears in gold on a black background to match the dial. Even with the added function, the watch measure a still-thin 9.4mm in height.

On all these debut models Nomos ensures that the slightly curved shape of the dial matches the curve of the domed sapphire crystal.

And finally, Nomos fits a leather strap made from black Horween Genuine leather on each model.

Grand Seiko adds two watches to its ‘snowflake’ series of watches known for their particularly rich white-patterned dial inspired by the pristine snow-covered landscapes of Shinshu, Japan.

The two new quartz-powered references, SBGX355 and STGF385, present the eye-catching dial pattern in different sizes and within different case materials.

One model (SBGX355, above) features a mid-sized (37mm) titanium case and bracelet while the second model (below) measures 28.9mm in diameter and features a stainless steel case, a diamond-set bezel and a steel bracelet.

On the larger model, a dual-curved sapphire crystal protects the crisp white dial. Inside Grand Seiko fits its superb quartz Caliber 9F62 that operates with an accuracy of ±10 seconds per year.

The smaller model, STGF385, is a more luxurious with a bezel set with 44 diamonds.

This is a fairly thin watch, measuring 8.8mm from top to back, and its subtle gem-set accent only enhances the snowflake dial, echoing ice atop a new snowfall. Grand Seiko’s quartz Caliber 4J52 powers the hands.

Prices:  $3,800 (SBGX355) and $5,500 (STGF385).
