H. Moser Genesis Melds Virtual and Physical

H. Moser & Cie. steps firmly into the metaverse with a project that links both physical and virtual dimensions.

The new H. Moser Endeavour Centre Seconds Genesis, with a micro-blasted 40mm steel case with a 3D-printed titanium crown and ‘pixelated’ bezel.

The new Endeavour Centre Seconds Genesis, is a micro-blasted 40mm steel watch with a 3D-printed titanium crown, an ultra-dark Vantablack dial and a bezel that seems pixelated.  

The watch’s virtual appearance is underscored by multiple digital assets, including a unique QR code engraved on its sapphire crystal that allows the owner to authenticate watch ownership.

The code will also allow priority to purchase certain future limited editions, blockchain authentication, membership of the Moser community and a virtual Swiss chalet, plus access to various H. Moser launch events.

The watch is also the first piece in a triptych, and its owner will have access to the next two pieces.

H. Moser is offering the time-only Endeavour Centre Seconds Genesis model as a limited edition of fifty pieces. Price: CHF 27,000.

Zenith Adds Double Tourbillon to Defy Extreme

With the new Defy Extreme Double Tourbillon, Zenith extends the reach of one of its most technically complex movements, El Primero Caliber 9020, by placing it into two ongoing Defy Extreme designs.

The 1/100th-of-a-second high-frequency chronograph movement, with a seconds hand that races around the dial once per second, is already among the watchmaker’s defining technical achievements.

The new Zenith Defy Extreme Double Tourbillon, here in titanium, is now an ongoing Defy Extreme model.

Found previously powering special limited editions, the caliber utilizes two independent tourbillons, each regulating a different function. One tourbillon completes its rotation in sixty seconds to regulate the time display while the second tourbillon rotates in just five seconds to regulate a high-frequency chronograph. 

The new watch is now most complicated model in the Zenith Defy collection. And true to Defy’s sporty character, the new model is set in a hefty 45mm case and will be offered with two different executions.

One version features a titanium case with a mix of satin-brushed, polished and matte surfaces (including the titanium bracelet). The second model, offered on a black rubber strap, is cased in carbon fiber with sandblasted matte rose gold twelve-sided bezel and pusher protectors. Both offer open-work dials to better display the dual tourbillons and their star-shaped cages.

Zenith has finished the watch’s El Primero 9020 movement to emphasize its decidedly contemporary nature.

Artisans have satin-brushed its bridges and coated them with a layer of black PVD. The finishing touch is a rose gold highlight meant to expose the various geometric shapes throughout the caliber.

Zenith is offering the new Defy Extreme Double Tourbillon as an ongoing model, in both versions, at retailers, Zenith boutiques and online Zenith boutiques.

Prices: $79,700 (carbon case, rose gold) and $69,600 (brushed titanium).

Bulgari Teams With Phillips for New Octo Finissimo

As the Bulgari Octo Finissimo celebrates its ten-year anniversary, the originator of the design and the Phillips auction house have teamed to create the Octo Finissimo Special Edition Phillips in Association with Bacs and Russo, a limited edition model that echoes the collection’s monochromatic dial, thin octagonal case and symmetric design elements.

Since Bulgari designs always reference Roman architecture, the new special edition also retains the Roman sense of geometric symmetry. Thus, around the center of the sand-blasted titanium dial you’ll see a symmetric set of engraved markers with only the 12 and 6 breaking the pattern. The new watch eliminates the seconds subdial found on the historic Octo Finissimo design, a decision that highlights the full round dial within the eight-sided case.

“With this sectored dial design, our intent was to create a symmetry and pay tribute not only to Bulgari’s Italian roots, but also to the great Italian architects and designers of the 20th century,” explains Aurel Bacs, Senior Consultant, Bacs & Russo.

“By eschewing the small seconds counter, a first for this model, we wanted to draw the focus on the engraved dial with its large numerals and the chapter ring whose color sways from black to grey to bronze, depending on the lighting.”

The thin 40mm case and the bracelet are finished to match the dial in sand-blasted titanium.

Bulgari’s BVL 138 movement with a platinum micro-rotor (visible from the caseback) powers the watch, offering an impressive 60-hour power reserve. The watch will be sold as a limited edition of fifty pieces via Phillips Watches.

Citizen Looks to Space With Starry Dialed Attesa

Citizen’s latest Attesa GPS watch highlights the watchmaker’s galactic inspiration with a full dose of Satellite Wave technology and a space-blue bezel and central bracelet links.

While Citizen is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Attesa collection with this debut, the watchmaker makes no secret that its designers gazed into space as they designed the new watch. Most directly, the watch’s eye-catching, star-flecked dial anticipates Citizen’s collaboration with the Hakuto-R lunar exploration program.

Citizen, which provided the Hakuto-R exploration program with Super Titanium components to be used in the legs of the Series 1 Lander, applies the same coating on this model and on many of its higher-end models (including a few in the hot-selling Hakuto-R series.)

Super Titanium is Citizen’s proprietary alloy that creates a lightweight, anti-allergenic, scratch-resistant and rust-resistant case for the 44mm watch. Citizen applies its other high-tech coating, Duratect DLC, along the bracelet and on the bezel.

You’ll find the DLC blue coating decorating and protecting the bracelet along the center links of the titanium bracelet, between the glossy black Duratect DLC coating. A well-made fold-over clasp with button secures the bracelet.

Within all this high-tech material Citizen places its groundbreaking F950 movement to power the light-driven Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS functions. The watch is capable of receiving time signals in as little as three seconds, with the hour and minute hands moving twice as fast as previous models.

Of course, as a full-fledged GPS model, the watch hosts a deep set of advanced features, including world time in 27 cities (40 time zones), a chronograph, dual time zones, (UTC) universal coordinated time display, a perpetual calendar, as well as daylight savings time, and power reserve and light level indicators.

Ulysse Nardin Launches a New One More Wave Diver

Ulysse Nardin commemorates Veteran’s Day by launching the Diver Chronometer 44mm One More Wave, the second watch built in collaboration with One More Wave, a non-profit organization that assists wounded veterans through surfing and artistic therapy.

Rather than the 1,000-meter-water-resistant, 46mm Deep Diver with helium valve we saw in 2019 with the premiere One More Wave model, the new watch offers an ‘everyday wear’ option to buyers.

It draws from the watchmaker’s Diver collection of 44mm, 300-meter models with more classical crown placement and no helium valve. Ulysse Nardin outfits the new watch with its excellent in-house UN-118 automatic movement.

The Diver Chronometer 44mm One More Wave also more prominently displays the One More Wave iconography and features the organization’s distinctive turquoise color on its hands, the top of the bezel and on the lower strap connector (on the OMW logo). The watch’s black DLC titanium clear sapphire caseback is also engraved with the One More Wave logo.

Jean-Christophe Sabatier, Ulysse Nardin chief product officer, explains that for the new watch, Ulysse Nardin worked closely with One More Wave founder and former U.S. Navy SEAL Alex West and his members to strongly emphasize the organization.

“I particularly like the way the hands line up perfectly with the 0 at the top of the bezel and with the logo just below the case, all with the same color,” Sabatier says.

The San Diego-based One More Wave has been assisting disabled veterans since 2015 and owns and operates its own surfboard factory to make custom surfboards for wounded and disabled veterans.

Now supporting 600 veterans, the organization aims to support 2,500 veterans with its ongoing fund-raising efforts. “We would not be the same organization we are today without the support from Ulysse Nardin,” says West.
