Konstantin Chaykin, a Russian watchmaker and member of the prestigious AHCI, has been delighting watch connoisseurs with his unique creations for years. His manufacture is famous for its original designs that combine precision mechanisms with unconventional design. The latest model, the Wristmon Zebra, continues this tradition while introducing a groundbreaking innovation to the market – the brand’s first fully original mechanism.
The Wristmon Zebra is not just another model in the popular Wristmons series, but a real milestone for the brand. This one-of-a-kind piece was created to celebrate the debut of the K.33-3 movement – the first automatic caliber designed and produced entirely by Chaykin’s team. The watch retains the collection’s characteristic “rolling eye” time display, while introducing a completely new quality to the watch’s interior.
The new K.33-3 movement is the true pride of the Chaykin Manufacture. Equipped with a microrotor for automatic winding of the mainspring, this caliber replaces the previously used and modified ETA and Vaucher movements. Its creation is not only a response to logistical challenges, but above all proof of the craftsmanship and innovation of the Russian watchmaker. The K.33-3 works at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Mounted on 40 jewels, it combines precision with efficiency.
The Wristmon Zebra impresses not only with its mechanism, but also with its appearance. The 40 mm diameter and 13.1 mm thick case is made of stainless steel, and its shape refers to the silhouette of the titular animal. The characteristic ears of the zebra serve as a fastening for the strap, which – of course – is also decorated with straps. The watch face is a true work of art, consisting of 40 elements. The central motif, inspired by the snout of a zebra, was created from an embossed and lacquered disc. The moving eyes, which are a hallmark of the Wristmons collection, indicate the hours and minutes, while the date display is cleverly incorporated into the animal’s “nostrils”.
Despite its eccentric nature, the Wristmon Zebra combines form with function with finesse. The watch surprises with an ingenious day of the week indicator, cleverly hidden in the “nostrils” of the zebra, where two Cyrillic letters reveal the current day. However, it is the “tongue” of the zebra that will steal the heart of every watch lover. It acts as an indicator of the position of the crown, changing from white to red when the watch is ready to set the time. The transparent caseback reveals the heart of the watch – the K.33-3 movement. Its raw, technical finish creates a fascinating contrast with the playful character of the dial. It is a harmonious combination of engineering precision and artistic vision that is undoubtedly an eye-catcher.
Wristmon Zebra Piece Unique is a watch that fully reflects the spirit of innovation and creativity of Konstantin Chaykin. With a new ” in-house ” movement and unique design, it is a perfect combination of technology and watchmaking art. Although it is a unique model , we can expect Chaykin to introduce more watches with this type of movement in the future, offering collectors even more opportunities to admire and wear on their wrists.
