Wempe now offers blue or black rubber straps for its sporty Iron Walker collection of sharp-looking sports watches available with Diver, Tide or GMT functions.

Wempe introduced the Iron Walker collection in 2020 as a high-value series that complements its dressier Wempe Chronometerwerk collection, a high-end series powered by in-house mechanical movements.

The new rubber strap options offer a sportier look to the 42mm functional-focused series with weather-resistant synthetic rubber that matches the watch’s dial coloring. Wempe already includes rubber-strap options within its top-selling 44mm Iron Walker Automatic Chronograph collection.

The Wempe Iron Walker Diver.

Rather than simply fitting an off-the-shelf movement into each Iron Walker Dive, GMT or Tide watch, Wempe modifies a Swiss automatic Sellita movement in its Glashütte workshop, adding an in-house fine adjustment subassembly regulated to pass the stringent testing procedure in Glashütte’s own historical observatory.

As a result all the watches in the collection are officially certified chronometer-rated according to the ISO 3159 norm.

All models also offer 300-meter water resistance, a sapphire crystal, SuperLuminova-coated markers and fifty-six hours of power reserve.

Currently Wempe is also updating all the offering within its Wempe Zeitmeister and Iron Walker collections to meet the same strict technical specifications. Prices: $4,150 (diver), $4,440 (GMT) and $4,185 (Tide).

Wempe celebrates its long-time partnership with Nomos Glashütte by adding a special edition of the Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update to the German-based retailer’s Signature Collection of limited editions.

The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update Signature Collection Wempe.

This special version of the 40.5-mm steel watch features an ice blue dial,  Arabic numerals, hour markers, and a navy blue date disk to match blued hours, minutes, and separate small seconds hands.

Those familiar with the Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update might be aware of its unusual date display. Nomos displays the date around the perimeter of the dial using two markers that shift each day to frame the current date numeral.

This patented display is underscored by a second patented mechanism that allows the date to be corrected both forward and backward. While not a new feature in the watch world, its use in such a thin caliber is unique.

Nomos added this unique date display to the Tangente Neomatik in 2018, when the watch also received several updates that included regulation of the movement in six positions instead of the usual five, new decorative polishes, blued screws, and gold-plated engraving on the rotor.

Wempe will make the Tangente Neomatik 41 Update – Signature Collection, as a 200-piece limited edition, a fact that is engraved on the case back.

Wempe offers the watch with a dark blue textile strap with pin buckle. And even though the watch is a special, limited edition of the Tangente neomatik 41 Update, Wempe has priced it in line with ongoing model in the Nomos collection: $4,100.

Watch and jewelry retailer Wempe celebrates the 35th anniversary of its U.S. President Ruediger “Rudy” Albers with a special exhibition of watches from Wempe’s museum collection in Hamburg.

On exhibit during October at Wempe in New York, the celebratory selection includes vintage Wempe timepieces, watches from the 1980s and co-branded limited editions.

Wempe collaborations with Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin and Chopard.

Albers started his tenure with the German-based retailer in 1987 as a master watchmaker at the Wempe store in Hamburg and transferred to its New York location a year later.

Named president of Wempe U.S. in 2002, Albers has been instrumental in the long-running success of Wempe in the United States. The retailer in the U.S. earns more than 100 million dollars in annual sales and has been the company’s top boutique worldwide for the past twenty-five years.

Under Albers’ leadership the U.S. arm of the brand has launched an ecommerce platform and has expanded its New York boutique three times to create its current 5,500-square-feet space on Fifth Avenue. In addition, Albers spearheaded the opening of the first Rolex stand-alone U.S. boutique in 2012. Operated by Wempe, the store is inside the Rolex Building in New York, also on Fifth Avenue.
