TAG Heuer revisits a 1969 original with the new TAG Heuer Monaco Purple Dial Limited Edition, which combines historical Monaco detailing with a new hue that echoes aged blue metallic dials.

The new TAG Heuer Monaco Purple Dial Limited Edition.

The new watch plays on how aging and light has altered many original blue dials found on decades-old collector favorites, including Heuer Monaco references 1113B, the Heuer Chronomatic and the later 1533 Caliber 15.

At the time, Heuer used a metallic blue paint over the dial’s brass plate. As the brass patinated on these original Monaco watches, their dial color frequently changed from metallic blue to a dégradé purple color, which many collectors today find pleasing.

TAG Heuer skips that aging process entirely with this new watch, launching a limited edition Monaco in its original 39mm case size and with a gradient purple dial that darkens at its edges—echoing the vintage Monaco survivors.

On this modernized model, TAG Heuer infuses the dial with rhodium-plated indexes, adds white SuperLuminova to the hands and markers and enhances the two black sub-counters with a bit of smokiness.

TAG Heuer fits the watch with its excellent in-house chronograph movement, Calibre Heuer 02,
which boasts a full eighty hours of power reserve and is visible through the sapphire caseback. The movement itself is also decorated with a custom rotor and column wheel that feature engravings with purple details.

Need more purple? TAG Heuer has you covered as the Le Locle watchmaker also lines its black alligator strap with purple on the inside.

TAG Heuer offer its Monaco Purple Dial Limited Edition exclusively in TAG Heuer boutiques. Price: $7,150.

The new 43 mm TAG Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph displays more racetrack-inspired details than we’ve seen on previous TAG Heuer Indy 500 watches.

The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph.

In part that’s because this year TAG Heuer closely collaborated with its resident Indy driver Alexander Rossi, a TAG Heuer ‘friend’ who will be wearing the new watch during the famed Indy 500 race this Sunday, May 29.

Right away you’ll see the Indy 500 logo engraved in gold on the watch’s ceramic bezel framing an inner bezel colored to echo the brick red that gives the racetrack its Brickyard nickname. Look toward the 6 o’clock location however to see the 1/10th second chronograph counter and the dial’s real treat: a depiction of the track’s famed Pagoda control structure.

With an Indy 500 engraving dominating its case back, this Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph is ready to race. TAG Heuer adds that Rossi’s helmet will also reflect the look and colors of the new watch.

The quartz-powered chronograph is water-resistant to 200-meters and highly shock resistant. Its steel three-row bracelet fits the watch over a racing suit with use of a folding clasp with a double safety system and pilot extension.

TAG Heuer is offering the Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph as a limited edition of 500, each priced at $2,400.

Only months after releasing a quartz-powered Formula 1 Senna Special Edition, TAG Heuer this week launches a new version of the most recent annual tribute to the late, famed Brazilian racecar champion Ayrton Senna.

Ayrton Senna was Formula 1 World Champion in 1988, 1989, and 1999.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition, with an automatic movement.

Now equipped with an automatic movement, the 44mm TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition boasts a heightened focus on the Senna Brand colors, specifically red, anthracite and black. The color red is particularly significant as it was prominent on Ayrton Senna’s original TAG Heuer watch.

Thus, TAG Heuer has finished the 2 o’clock pusher, the crown and the Senna double S at 12 o’clock with red lacquer. Similarly, the watch’s subdials feature red accents.

The watch’s sunray-brushed anthracite dial, with its patterned black minute, hour and permanent second chronograph counters, reflects light alongside a generous helping of white SuperLuminova on the rhodium-plated applied indexes and hands. A black ceramic tachymeter bezel frames the dial.

Note that TAG Heuer has engraved the number 400 on the bezel. The reference here is to symbolism of 400 km/h, a speed that has never been reached in Formula 1.

TAG Heuer also references Senna with the choice of bracelet, as is typical with this tribute collection. The first TAG Heuer chronographs worn by Ayrton Senna featured a similar S/EL style bracelet or strap with a folding clasp and a driver extension designed to fit over the sleeve of a racing suit.

Inside TAG Heuer fits its automatic Caliber 16, protected by a steel screw down case back engraved with a depiction of Senna’s helmet.

All week we’re reviewing 2022 debuts presented during Watches and Wonders 2022 that, perhaps, you didn’t read too much about in the first wave of online reporting.

Somewhat lost amid the other 2022 TAG Heuer debuts like the Aquaracer Pro 1000 Superdiver and the Carrera Plasma Tourbillon Nanograph, this Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph conveys several stories simultaneously about this bedrock Swiss watchmaker.

The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph.

The new watch both represents TAG Heuer’s first entry into the light-powered watch arena while also demonstrating a slow but steady move by Swiss watchmakers to build greater sustainability into their products, and even into their day-to-day operations.

The 40mm black DLC-coated stainless steel watch is powered by light thanks to its all-new solar-powered movement designed and built by La Joux-Perret, the Swiss-based movement maker owned by Citizen. (We’re inquiring as to how much of Citizen’s existing Eco-Drive expertise the Swiss manufacturer has utilized.)

The sun not only powers the movement of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph, but it also lightens the distinctive SuperLuminova elements of the watch’s very cool light-marbled bezel, as well as its dial and hands.

As the SuperLuminova blends with the black carbon during the manufacturing of the bezel, it creates a unique pattern that essentially makes each bezel slightly different.

This Solargraph movement means the wearer will not need to change the watch’s battery, which recharges in sunlight or even in artificial light. After two minutes in full sunlight the watch will operate for one full day, and when fully charged after about twenty hours under the sun, the watch can run for six months. If the timepiece stops working, the wearer need only expose it again to light for ten seconds to make it start once again.

Price: $2,950.
