Luminox celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of the Navy SEALs, a long-time Luminox partner, by issuing a specialized version of its all-black Series 3580 Navy SEAL series watch, one of the watchmaker’s best-selling chronographs.

The Luminox “Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast” Series 3580 chronograph.

To help celebrate the famed military unit’s anniversary, Luminox has emblazoned the SEAL mantra “Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast” in all capital letters – and in red – on an otherwise dark dial. The tip of the seconds hand and the hour markers are the only other red accents on this nicely textured black dial.

The Navy SEAL mantra is meant to remind Luminox wearers that often the best and quickest way to accomplish any task is to take time and to slow down and focus on the task at hand.

The 45mm quartz-powered chronograph model is encased in Luminox’s carbon alloy called Carbonox, which also comprises the material for the unidirectional bezel.

As you’d expect from this brand, the new model incorporates Luminox Light Technology, which ensures that the markers and hands remain visible in any light condition for up to twenty-five years.

Luminox protects the Ronda quartz chronograph movement inside with 200-meters of water resistance, an especially hardened crown, a double security gasket and a steel caseback.

The watch’s black rubber strap is held to the wrist with a stainless steel brushed IP black signature Luminox buckle. Price: $595.

Maurice Lacroix adds an extra sporty model to its popular Aikon collection with the new King of the Court Special Edition, a quartz chronograph dedicated to the King of the Court series of beach volleyball tournaments.

As the King of the Court’s official timekeeper, Maurice Lacroix launches the 42mm titanium chronograph with eye-catching black, white and golden yellow color accents to match the volleyball organization’s official colors. In addition, you’ll find that the case back is engraved with the King of the Court logo.

For those evening matches, Maurice Lacroix ensures easy dial visibility with extra strong luminescent material on the watch’s hour and minute hands.

Maurice Lacroix supplies a three-color premium-quality rubber strap with the watch. The watchmaker says the new strap is “more flexible, aiding wearer comfort and provides superior wear resistance.”

And as is the case with the full Aikon collection, the new watch is also endowed with the Easy Strap Exchange system that allows for tool-free strap changes. Price: $1,500.

Tom Ford extends its collection of watches made using recycled materials with the Tom Ford Ocean Plastic N.004, a rectangular-cased series with a minimalist, number-free dial design.

Cased in a 27mm by 48.5mm semi-matte black or white recycled ‘ocean plastic’ case with a steel back, the quartz-powered series extends the brand’s eco-friendly ethos to its matching white or black strap, which is made entirely from the same recycled material as the case. The braided straps are similar to the black and white straps found on its round-cased, black-dialed Ocean Plastic watches that debuted earlier this year.

According to the company, each Swiss-made Ocean Plastic N.004 watch “permanently removes the equivalent of 35 bottles of plastic waste from the ocean, with all packaging being recyclable.”

Tom Ford says it plans to release a metal version of the watch this Fall made with 100% recycled steel.

The new model is dressier than the earlier Ocean Plastic designs, with elegant diamond cut hour and a minute hands, double-curved sapphire crystal and a crown made of either matte stainless steel with a white ocean plastic insert or a black PVD plating and black ocean plastic insert. No markers beyond the Tom Ford logo at 12 o’clock are visible.

Price: $995.

The new 43 mm TAG Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph displays more racetrack-inspired details than we’ve seen on previous TAG Heuer Indy 500 watches.

The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph.

In part that’s because this year TAG Heuer closely collaborated with its resident Indy driver Alexander Rossi, a TAG Heuer ‘friend’ who will be wearing the new watch during the famed Indy 500 race this Sunday, May 29.

Right away you’ll see the Indy 500 logo engraved in gold on the watch’s ceramic bezel framing an inner bezel colored to echo the brick red that gives the racetrack its Brickyard nickname. Look toward the 6 o’clock location however to see the 1/10th second chronograph counter and the dial’s real treat: a depiction of the track’s famed Pagoda control structure.

With an Indy 500 engraving dominating its case back, this Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph is ready to race. TAG Heuer adds that Rossi’s helmet will also reflect the look and colors of the new watch.

The quartz-powered chronograph is water-resistant to 200-meters and highly shock resistant. Its steel three-row bracelet fits the watch over a racing suit with use of a folding clasp with a double safety system and pilot extension.

TAG Heuer is offering the Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 Limited Edition chronograph as a limited edition of 500, each priced at $2,400.

All week we’re reviewing 2022 debuts presented during Watches and Wonders 2022 that, perhaps, you didn’t read too much about in the first wave of online reporting.

Somewhat lost amid the other 2022 TAG Heuer debuts like the Aquaracer Pro 1000 Superdiver and the Carrera Plasma Tourbillon Nanograph, this Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph conveys several stories simultaneously about this bedrock Swiss watchmaker.

The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph.

The new watch both represents TAG Heuer’s first entry into the light-powered watch arena while also demonstrating a slow but steady move by Swiss watchmakers to build greater sustainability into their products, and even into their day-to-day operations.

The 40mm black DLC-coated stainless steel watch is powered by light thanks to its all-new solar-powered movement designed and built by La Joux-Perret, the Swiss-based movement maker owned by Citizen. (We’re inquiring as to how much of Citizen’s existing Eco-Drive expertise the Swiss manufacturer has utilized.)

The sun not only powers the movement of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph, but it also lightens the distinctive SuperLuminova elements of the watch’s very cool light-marbled bezel, as well as its dial and hands.

As the SuperLuminova blends with the black carbon during the manufacturing of the bezel, it creates a unique pattern that essentially makes each bezel slightly different.

This Solargraph movement means the wearer will not need to change the watch’s battery, which recharges in sunlight or even in artificial light. After two minutes in full sunlight the watch will operate for one full day, and when fully charged after about twenty hours under the sun, the watch can run for six months. If the timepiece stops working, the wearer need only expose it again to light for ten seconds to make it start once again.
