About Betteridge

A family jeweler for generations, Betteridge has been a prime destination for collectors of elite time- pieces since its 1897 founding by A.E., Albert Edwin, Betteridge in New York City. Working alongside his father, “Colonel” Betteridge, A.E. developed an appreciation for fine timepieces and jewelry, a reputation for excellence and a sophisticated, yet familial style of client care that has since been embraced by the subsequent generations of company leadership.

In the early twentieth century, Betteridge expanded its footprint, opening jewelry boutiques on two of the most important corners in Manhattan: at Fifth Avenue and 45th Street, and at Wall Street and Broadway. The flourishing company also opened a location in the Miami Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

In the years following WWII, A.E. passed the Betteridge torch to his son Bert, who quickly demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to the business. Bert recognized the abundant and still growing opportunities in New York City’s affluent suburbs, and in 1952, he relocated Betteridge’s flagship store to Greenwich, Connecticut.

Today, Betteridge is under the charismatic leadership of Bert’s son Terry, who despite a jewelry lineage preceding the 1890s, had not planned on entering the family trade. Bert encountered a health scare in the mid 1970s, and encouraged his son to join him in business, a decision that ultimately proved fortuitous. Terry was soon at the helm; and today, he is recognized beyond the Greenwich limits as a true industry leader, horological enthusiast and expert in significant estate jewelry and watches. Under Terry’s leadership, Betteridge has continued to capture the attention of clients seeking the finest from the world of high luxury: exclusive Swiss timepieces, European jewels and a global collection of signed estate jewelry and watches.

“We have built our business upon a tradition of serving our clientele without compromise,” Terry explains. “Many of our clients come from families that have been a part of our story ‘forever.’ In many instances, Betteridge served parents, grandparents and even earlier generations of a family!” This intimate, time-honored approach to service is in itself a Betteridge tradition.

Following the vacationing habits of their prestigious clientele, Betteridge has expanded under Terry’s direction to include stores in Palm Beach, Aspen and Vail, while still maintaining a thriving Greenwich boutique, which relocated to a 12,000-square-foot location at 239 Greenwich Avenue from its former flagship location at 117 Greenwich Avenue in the fall of 2015.

“This has become the most beautiful part of Greenwich Avenue and home to some of the most upscale brands in the world,” said Terry Betteridge, noting such neighbors as Ralph Lauren and Hermès. “The building retains that historic feel that embraces not only the longevity of our business, but also the heritage of the town itself.”

The stores are characterized by an old-world charm with an inviting and familial atmosphere. Visitors to the Vail location particularly note with fondness the custom-designed Patek Philippe showcase which doubles as a ‘pub-style’ bar, encouraging them to explore the exquisite collections in comfort. The new store in Greenwich, created by New York City-based Gachot Studios, preserves the integrity and spirit of the high-end luxury brand, while creating spaces that respond to modern sensibilities.

Across all locations, Betteridge associates revel in helping clients navigate the stores’ collections, recognizing that special purchases may someday serve as family heirlooms. Heirloom-worthy indeed, the most celebrated names in haute horology can be found at Betteridge, including Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Rolex and more. The company’s sales associates are incredibly knowledgeable in this realm, going to great lengths to ensure their preparedness to address all client needs. They stay abreast of industry developments, new product releases and timepiece trends through regular interaction and formal training with representatives from the prestigious brands, as well as thorough readings of all industry and enthusiast publications – both in print and online.

The company’s full team includes watchmakers, master jewelers and craftsmen. Terry’s own children, Win and Brooke, recently joined him in the business. Representing the fifth generation in the Betteridge story, Brooke identifies jewelry designers and new collections deemed fit for the stores’ savvy clientele, while Win leads the company’s digital efforts through a state-of-the-art website. Through this platform, Win has focused on bringing Betteridge’s renowned service and superior product to new customers and brand advocates around the world.

In addition to its distinguished range of timepieces, Betteridge offers an enviable selection of designer and estate jewelry. Stunning pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany, Buccellati, Bulgari, Verdura, David Webb and many more grace the polished cases at each location. The inventory is ever-growing in this area, as “new” vintage treasures are uncovered across the globe by Terry and his team. Handcrafted engagement rings and bespoke jewelry complement the designer and estate jewelry collections.

In 1897, A. E. Betteridge told his employees, “If you sell the best and do what’s best for customers, people will want to buy jewelry from you.” More than 100 years later, this guiding principle continues to inspire the extended Betteridge family each day, as they outfit their international clientele in the absolute finest—always with professionalism, respect and great appreciation.

About Ballerina Jewelers

Ballerina Jewelers and its sister stores have outfitted the Caribbean in fine watches and beautiful jewelry for over a quarter of a century. Founded by Sam Mirpuri, the company is now in its second generation, with brothers Peter, James and Mike Mirpuri at the helm. Together, they have cultivated Ballerina Jewelers into a destination that attracts tourists and residents alike, helping them make important purchases in the realm of watches and jewelry.

Since its founding, Ballerina Jewelers has grown to include ten locations, two of which are exclusive boutiques for recently acquired brands, just doors away from each other. Ballerina Jewelers opened its Ice Watch store in 2013, and in the fall of 2014, it opened a Longines Flagship Boutique—the first ever in the Caribbean. While each location has its own personality, the stores share a classically elegant style, providing customers with a comfortable environment in which to shop. The flagship location, at 56 Front Street in Philipsburg, St. Maarten, has a traditional exterior, while inside the store is modern and ultrachic.

“We were small in the beginning. Some would say our survival is a tribute to our hard work,” Managing Director Mike Mirpuri shares. “We would like to think that our 28 years of success can be attributed to a meticulous commitment to our core values: service commitment to our customers and commitment to our employees and their families.”

Ballerina Jewelers represents approximately 40 watch brands, making it a one-stop shop for any serious watch collector or fashion- conscious timepiece aficionado. The array of watches includes elite brands such as Roger Dubuis, Franck Muller, Bell & Ross, Graham, Frédérique Constant and Perrelet, as well as fashion brands Guess, Versace, Calvin Klein and more.

Mirpuri was hard-pressed to identify one brand as the company’s most popular. He thoughtfully says, “Our staff approaches each brand and transaction with the respect it deserves, whether dealing with a $3,000 or $40,000 timepiece, a single customer or an entire family—such as the father and three sons who left Ballerina Jewelers with a Perrelet Turbine on each of their wrists.”

Ballerina Jewelers’ 50 dedicated sales associates exercise their dedication to the customer experience each day, and they ensure their preparedness to address clients’ needs through in-house trainings and a thorough review of magazines, websites and press material available.

As an avid watch enthusiast himself, Mirpuri notes the enjoyment that both he and his team experience when navigating the great range of complications with clients. Both the fine selection of product and the dedication of the staff influence clients to return to Ballerina Jewelers for future purchases and watch exploration.

“Each customer of Ballerina Jewelers is treated to a level of service that is second to none, which makes it highly likely that they will visit one of our stores during future trips to the Caribbean,” Mirpuri adds. “This is often the case, as world travelers are regularly heading to the Caribbean for beachside respites, and they often include Ballerina Jewelers as a part of their vacation tour!”

Ballerina Jewelers understands that in addition to offering great brands and exceptional service, part of its job is to educate consumers about the benefits of buying a timepiece from an authorized dealer.

“We do our best to explain to customers that there is no warranty included and there is no after-sales service provided when purchasing a watch from an unauthorized dealer,” Mirpuri says. “At Ballerina, we offer an additional service guarantee on timepieces sold, and we will service watches after the original warranty has expired at a minimum expense.”

While watches are indeed a strong focus at Ballerina Jewelers, the company offers a varied inventory, including watch winders by Swiss Kubik, writing instruments by Montblanc and Cross, giftware by Lladró and the stunning collections of over 20 fine jewelry brands. Ballerina’s featured jewelry designers include Tacori, Simon G, Hidalgo, Le Vian, Stefan Hafner, Chimento for Men, Fope and more.

When it comes to philanthropic and civic activity, Ballerina Jewelers is committed to helping its local and greater community at every opportunity.

“Since our business revolves around milestones, celebrations and times of prosperity, it is our duty to reach out to those less fortunate,” Mirpuri explains.

And reach out they do. They have shown recent support for the American Red Cross, the Monument Preservation Foundation and Rotary International, as well as ongoing support for the AIDS Foundation and the Breast Cancer Foundation. Ballerina Jewelers has also demonstrated its philanthropic spirit through contributions to build a classroom for the University of St. Maarten.

The next time your travels take you to paradise, visit Ballerina Jewelers for a well-deserved and enjoyable stop at yet another corner of paradise.

About Astwood Dickinson

Bermuda, known for its pink-sand beaches and colorful architecture, is also recognized among watch and jewelry lovers far and wide as the home of renowned jeweler Astwood Dickinson. In June of 2015, the well-respected store relocated to Orbis House at 25 Front Street, after 111 successful years just a few blocks away at 85 Front Street. The decision to move was a thoughtful one, as CEO Somers Cooper explains. “It’s always a risk when moving an institution from an established and successful location. The opportunity arose at the same time our lease was near completion,” says Cooper. “We believed that a move to Orbis House would appeal to our customer base and allow us to showcase our beautiful products in an updated setting.

“Orbis House is closer in proximity to the multitude of offices that now border Pitt’s Bay Road and is also directly across from the Hamilton Ferry Terminal providing tremendous foot traffic.”

The new store was the brainchild of Mr. Cooper’s business partner, James Boyce. “While Astwood Dickinson enjoyed an enviable position as one of Hamilton’s top stores, we felt that it was time for us to reintroduce the company in a modern setting and realign our product mix to best suit both our local and tourist guests,” said Mr. Boyce.

The new flagship offers an open and modern environment that captivates visitors with shop-in-shops featuring such renowned marques as Bremont, Cartier and Hearts on Fire, the world’s most perfectly cut diamond. Flawless showcases, gleaming under the glow of newly installed suspended LED lighting, display an admirable range of products from such highly esteemed watch brands as Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling, Omega, Bremont, TAG Heuer and Raymond Weil. Jewelry brands include Effy, Royal Jewelry and Links of London.

In addition, the store also offers its own Original Bermuda Collection, all handmade jewelry in 18-karat yellow gold made in the company’s Bermuda workshop using the island’s ora and fauna as inspiration.

“This flagship store was actually 111 years in the making,” says General Manager Steve Waldeck. “We felt it was important that we create a brand-new and modern first-class environment.” Part of the vision, in addition to carrying some of the best brands in the world—at duty free prices where applicable—was to ensure the highest level of service conveyed by a team of well-trained specialists. The store employees avail themselves of daily half- hour training sessions in addition to regular education via vendors’ in-store or online programs, while some specialists travel overseas to study with specific brands. The end result of Astwood Dickinson’s investment in its staff’s knowledge and proficiency is a palpable enthusiasm that customers have learned to enjoy, appreciate and trust.”

Limited editions are popular at the store, thanks in part to its reputation for having a rich selection from a variety of brands. As an example, customers excitedly anticipated the Bremont America’s Cup Limited Edition timepiece. Created in honor of the upcoming world-class sailing event, the finals of which will take place in Bermuda in 2017, just 250 pieces quickly sold out. So for this year a 32mm Ladies Bremont AC32 was commissioned with the America’s Cup dial and an engraved case back showing artwork designed by local artist Graham Foster, famous for his John Lennon Sculpture. Astwood Dickinson is the only store in the world offering it.

With the company’s highly visible presence in the Bermuda, a collaboration was formed with the Hamilton Princess Hotel, which had just completed a $100 million refurbishment with a marina, to open a boutique featuring official America’s Cup products along with Bremont, Cartier, Omega, and Hearts On Fire Diamonds.

The new boutique has the same DNA as the Flagship Store and has a walk-through to the America’s Cup store featuring the six America’s Cup team clothing and accessories. A final coup was adding Vineyard Vines, official style of America’s Cup, clothing to the America’s Cup Bremont special edition watches.
