Oris celebrates baseball hall-of-famer Hank Aaron with a limited-edition Big Crown Pointer Date, a debut that kicks off the watchmaker’s new collaboration with the non-profit Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation.
With a design based on the well-known Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, the Hank Aaron Limited Edition features a blue, red and white color scheme inspired by Hank Aaron’s baseball uniform. But the colors here are subtle, with blue and red simply outlining numerals and the minutes ring.
The watch’s blue leather strap includes white stitching to echo Aaron’s baseball glove. Oris explains that the subtlety is offered to “reflect Aaron’s humble attitude.”
In addition to the blue leather strap, Oris includes an interchangeable blue, red and white NATO fabric strap and a strap change tool.
“Aaron was also one of the greats in Major League Baseball (MLB) history,” Oris notes. “Throughout his career, he encountered racism on and off the field, yet rose above it with grace and dignity to become a symbol of perseverance and strength through adversity, and an agent of social change.”
Oris will celebrate the launch of the Hank Aaron Limited Edition starting July 25 with a multi-day celebration with the Atlanta Braves. All past winners of the Major League Baseballs’ Hank Aaron Award (awarded since 1999) will receive one of the 2,297 pieces of the limited-edition watch.
The 40mm steel automatic watch features a central pointer date hand with a red tip, a fluted bezel and a large crown.
Oris has engraved the back with an image of Aaron and his famous cross-handed batting stance.
Price: $2,500.
