About Shreve, Crump & Low

America’s oldest jeweler, Shreve, Crump & Low’s story began in 1796 when young watchmaker and renowned silversmith John McFarlane opened a workshop across the street from Paul Revere’s own silversmith shop. McFarlane had an affinity for luxury and built a business procuring such items as sterling silver tea sets and other wares. With the entry of globally influential Benjamin Shreve into the company landscape, they soon delivered diamonds, jewels and other rarities from Europe and the Orient to the elite patrons of Boston.

The firm changed hands, ownership and names through the ensuing years, before it consolidated, reorganized and presented itself by its current name, Shreve, Crump & Low, in 1869. Shreve, Crump & Low was one of the first retailers in the country to offer Patek Philippe and Rolex timepieces, and the company fittingly earned a distinction of excellence and became regarded as an American business legend.

Two-thousand-six proved another turning point in Shreve, Crump & Low’s history as it joined the ranks of Boston’s renowned jeweler David Walker. Walker grew up against a backdrop of the jewelry industry and was running the successful store David & Company at the time of purchase. He later transitioned his eponymous shop into Shreve, Crump & Low’s Chestnut Hill location. Recalling the allure of Shreve, Crump & Low from his childhood, Walker made a pledge to restore the company’s grandeur.

A significant company change came in 2012 when Walker relocated the company’s flagship store to Boston’s most prestigious address: Newbury Street. An immense undertaking to construct, the store re-opened in May 2012. The 8,000-square-foot elegantly designed boutique draws inspiration from European salons and boasts custom showcases, sleek brand build-outs and an appointed space for relaxed browsing.

David Walker’s sons, Brian and Brad, joined their father in operations and development of the family-owned-and-run Shreve, Crump & Low and became deeply engaged in all aspects of the Newbury Street store construction.

“Every aspect of the store was methodically calculated and exact, down to the trim and fixtures,” Brian shares. “In fact, lighting specialists from six different companies were hired to assess the space before we selected the perfect LED options.”

Comprising three levels of perfectly lit showroom space, Shreve, Crump & Low presents diamonds and precious jewels on its first floor, a mezzanine-level Watch Salon and a third floor giftware department and bridal registry. As the perfect complement to David’s expertise and professional accomplishments in the jewelry realm, he welcomed a Boston Store Director with an extensive pedigree in fine timekeeping, Christopher Hislop, to guide development of the watch category.

Shreve, Crump & Low has since forged relationships with some of the watch industry’s most elite and specialized brands, including A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Breitling, IWC, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin, Zenith, TAG Heuer, Blancpain, Chopard, Hermès and more. Brian shares, “It is a daily occurrence that the passionate watch sales associates on the Shreve, Crump & Low watch floor help guests to purchase, discuss and obsess about the latest and greatest the watch industry has to offer.”

In 2014, Shreve, Crump & Low opened a store outside of Massachusetts for the first time in its lengthy history. The Greenwich, Connecticut, boutique is situated in the former Putnam Savings & Trust location, a historic limestone structure whose exterior is as elegant as its interior, which includes well-placed shop-in-shops. This store brought the number of Shreve, Crump & Low locations to three. The most significant change in 2016 was the renovation of the Boston store’s watch floor to make room for Hublot and Panerai. Piaget can be found in both the Greenwich and Boston stores.

Shreve, Crump & Low’s dedicated associates are well versed in the history, romance and collections of each of their represented brands—including the newly acquired Hublot, H. Moser & Cie and Officine Panerai—as well as the general pulse of the watch industry. The Walkers point to service and product knowledge as the cornerstones of the business, which has truly taken the form of an extended family of loyal customers. A refurbished e-commerce website and the judicious use of social media keep fans in touch with all the latest news and information forthcoming from this ever-vibrant company.

“Know your product. Know your brand. Know your inventory,” Brian conveys. “To properly represent specialized product, you need to know the history, the collections and what differentiates one piece from the next. Shreve, Crump & Low is fully committed to helping both the seasoned watch enthusiast and the budding collector navigate the often ‘complicated’ offerings of the watch industry.”

Underscoring this commitment to service, Shreve, Crump & Low has an expertly trained watchmaker on-site, certified by the most revered watch brands to ensure precision and excellence when dealing with repair and restoration work. Working in a sophisticated in-store service center that is both air sealed and antimicrobial results in ideal conditions for watchmaking.

Knowledgeable, passionate and fully engaged in the continued growth of its horological offerings and services, the entire Shreve, Crump & Low extended family is well poised to meet the needs of watch enthusiasts in Boston and beyond.

“From traveling across the country to deliver a watch, to traveling across the street,” Brian remarks, “Shreve, Crump & Low’s commitment to service goes across the board. There is a level of expertise and superior service that is expected, and that we proudly deliver.”

About Chong Hing Jewelers | CH Premier Jewelers

Founded in Los Angeles in 1970 by Ronald and Ellen Lee, Chong Hing Jewelers has earned a reputation for excellence over the last 47 years as an elite purveyor of the nest Swiss timepieces. Since its founding, the company has grown to include three locations in Southern California: in San Gabriel, Los Angeles’ Chinatown and Rowland Heights; and two locations in Northern California with the name CH Premier Jewelers, the most recent of which is a brand-new store in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto slated to open in the spring of 2017.

Across all locations, the Chong Hing Jewelers Group assists its discerning clientele as they navigate a curated selection of exquisite timepieces and exceptional jewelry. Each store exudes a gracious ambiance in which the unique personalities of the represented brands are aptly reflected. And with respect for its Asian-American heritage and international clientele, Chong Hing’s Chinatown location resides in a historic building whose exterior reflects traditional Chinese architectural design; the interior features the modern influences consistent across all company locations.

Clients are greeted within all locations by Chong Hing Jewelers’ knowledgeable associates, each well versed in the intricate and technical language of horology. They stay abreast of developments and horological innovations through monthly trainings and bi-yearly trainings with each brand. Store ambassadors also regularly travel to Switzerland and Germany to undergo trainings at the factory level where they gain greater understanding of the entire lifecycle of watchmaking. The complete Chong Hing team includes nearly 100 passionate individuals: sales associates, expertly trained watchmakers, graduate gemologists, bridal specialists and bench jewelers, representing their respective trades with great acumen. A watchmaker is onsite to provide services such as watch maintenance, strap or battery changes and general repairs.

Thus by forging sincere relationships with their customers, all areas of company activity are positively influenced, from inventory composition to marketing initiatives such as collector experiences, and a special events culture that includes local and international celebrities. Recent client gatherings include a VIP Tour of “Breguet: Art and Innovation in Watchmaking” at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, the Blancpain Ocean Commitment Road Show, and a VIP Hennessy Tasting with Maurice Hennessy featuring LVMH brands Hublot and Bulgari. Comprehensive service, innovation in presentation and a pure commitment to the luxury industry have enabled Chong Hing’s extensive growth and development over the last 47 years, and this trend will certainly continue, as 2017 marks the opening of the new 2,200-square-foot location in the Stanford Shopping Center.

About Cellini Jewelers

Leon Adams, Cellini’s Founder and President, has always been passionate about haute horlogerie. In 1977, it led him to open his first showroom in the Waldorf- Astoria, where his collection of hard-to-find timepieces struck a chord with a growing group of American collectors, who were rediscovering the art of mechanical watchmaking.

As Cellini’s reputation grew through the years, so did its watch collection, which was one of the first in America to include brands like A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, De Bethune, Franck Muller, Laurent Ferrier and Richard Mille. As proof of the company’s influential standing in the watchmaking world, Cartier selected Cellini to be one of only four U.S. dealers authorized to carry Cartier’s Fine Watchmaking Collection.

A veteran of countless watch fairs in Basel and Geneva, Adams has seen trends come and go, deepening his perspective and sharpening his ability to quickly separate the timely from the timeless. That keen eye, fueled by his genuine excitement for the art of horology, is why watch collectors trust Cellini.

“We’re constantly looking for new and innovative watchmakers, but we’re extremely selective about who we represent,” Adams explains. “Finding a brand that produces unique watches isn’t enough. The watches—and the watch company—must be built to last. Quality is foremost in everything we do at Cellini.”

Today, Cellini covers the spectrum of haute horlogerie with a phenomenal collection that appeals to all types of horological enthusiasts, from budding aficionados in search of their first fine timepiece, to savvy collectors who prize the extensive selection of rare watches, the likes of which you will not find anywhere else. “The depth of our collection means you can find what you want, when you want it,” Adams says. “That selection is what sets us apart and the reason people keep coming back.”

Cellini’s Madison Avenue boutique, opened in 1987, is home to an expertly curated collection that brings luxury to a human scale and pace. Though behind glass, the jewelry and timepieces seem to erase any barriers between them and their admirers by sheer force of personality. The gems (both horological and otherwise) project an air of approachability from their eye-level perches on the wall behind the counters, coaxing even the casual shopper to consider taking a natural or mechanical marvel in his or her hands.

THE PERFECT FIT Merchandise is far from the only reason the most discerning connoisseurs opt for Cellini. A knowledgeable staff provides impeccable service before, during and after a purchase.

Cellini’s horological specialists live and breathe watches, and they draw upon this wealth of knowledge to help each watch lover find the perfect fit. For those enchanted instead by shimmering works of art, Cellini’s jewelry experts put a world of exquisite beauty at your fingertips. The experience they provide puts the emphasis on the client’s needs.

While many customers know exactly what they want, some are uncertain or hesitant. It is for them that the Cellini staff shines brightest. “Selecting a fine piece of jewelry or your first luxury watch is definitely a process; you don’t just come in and buy it. Getting to know our customers and understanding their expectations is key to assisting them in making educated decisions,” says Adams. “We take a great deal of satisfaction in helping our clients make a decision that is best for them.”

Irresistible jewels, sophisticated horology, inviting venues and dedicated staff —it’s no wonder that after 40 years Cellini continues to be one of the most respected and successful boutiques of its kind. In this wildly competitive city, where storefronts, skylines and styles change as often as the weather, Cellini’s longevity is a testament to the power of an irreplaceable experience.

About Betteridge

A family jeweler for generations, Betteridge has been a prime destination for collectors of elite time- pieces since its 1897 founding by A.E., Albert Edwin, Betteridge in New York City. Working alongside his father, “Colonel” Betteridge, A.E. developed an appreciation for fine timepieces and jewelry, a reputation for excellence and a sophisticated, yet familial style of client care that has since been embraced by the subsequent generations of company leadership.

In the early twentieth century, Betteridge expanded its footprint, opening jewelry boutiques on two of the most important corners in Manhattan: at Fifth Avenue and 45th Street, and at Wall Street and Broadway. The flourishing company also opened a location in the Miami Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

In the years following WWII, A.E. passed the Betteridge torch to his son Bert, who quickly demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to the business. Bert recognized the abundant and still growing opportunities in New York City’s affluent suburbs, and in 1952, he relocated Betteridge’s flagship store to Greenwich, Connecticut.

Today, Betteridge is under the charismatic leadership of Bert’s son Terry, who despite a jewelry lineage preceding the 1890s, had not planned on entering the family trade. Bert encountered a health scare in the mid 1970s, and encouraged his son to join him in business, a decision that ultimately proved fortuitous. Terry was soon at the helm; and today, he is recognized beyond the Greenwich limits as a true industry leader, horological enthusiast and expert in significant estate jewelry and watches. Under Terry’s leadership, Betteridge has continued to capture the attention of clients seeking the finest from the world of high luxury: exclusive Swiss timepieces, European jewels and a global collection of signed estate jewelry and watches.

“We have built our business upon a tradition of serving our clientele without compromise,” Terry explains. “Many of our clients come from families that have been a part of our story ‘forever.’ In many instances, Betteridge served parents, grandparents and even earlier generations of a family!” This intimate, time-honored approach to service is in itself a Betteridge tradition.

Following the vacationing habits of their prestigious clientele, Betteridge has expanded under Terry’s direction to include stores in Palm Beach, Aspen and Vail, while still maintaining a thriving Greenwich boutique, which relocated to a 12,000-square-foot location at 239 Greenwich Avenue from its former flagship location at 117 Greenwich Avenue in the fall of 2015.

“This has become the most beautiful part of Greenwich Avenue and home to some of the most upscale brands in the world,” said Terry Betteridge, noting such neighbors as Ralph Lauren and Hermès. “The building retains that historic feel that embraces not only the longevity of our business, but also the heritage of the town itself.”

The stores are characterized by an old-world charm with an inviting and familial atmosphere. Visitors to the Vail location particularly note with fondness the custom-designed Patek Philippe showcase which doubles as a ‘pub-style’ bar, encouraging them to explore the exquisite collections in comfort. The new store in Greenwich, created by New York City-based Gachot Studios, preserves the integrity and spirit of the high-end luxury brand, while creating spaces that respond to modern sensibilities.

Across all locations, Betteridge associates revel in helping clients navigate the stores’ collections, recognizing that special purchases may someday serve as family heirlooms. Heirloom-worthy indeed, the most celebrated names in haute horology can be found at Betteridge, including Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Rolex and more. The company’s sales associates are incredibly knowledgeable in this realm, going to great lengths to ensure their preparedness to address all client needs. They stay abreast of industry developments, new product releases and timepiece trends through regular interaction and formal training with representatives from the prestigious brands, as well as thorough readings of all industry and enthusiast publications – both in print and online.

The company’s full team includes watchmakers, master jewelers and craftsmen. Terry’s own children, Win and Brooke, recently joined him in the business. Representing the fifth generation in the Betteridge story, Brooke identifies jewelry designers and new collections deemed fit for the stores’ savvy clientele, while Win leads the company’s digital efforts through a state-of-the-art website. Through this platform, Win has focused on bringing Betteridge’s renowned service and superior product to new customers and brand advocates around the world.

In addition to its distinguished range of timepieces, Betteridge offers an enviable selection of designer and estate jewelry. Stunning pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany, Buccellati, Bulgari, Verdura, David Webb and many more grace the polished cases at each location. The inventory is ever-growing in this area, as “new” vintage treasures are uncovered across the globe by Terry and his team. Handcrafted engagement rings and bespoke jewelry complement the designer and estate jewelry collections.

In 1897, A. E. Betteridge told his employees, “If you sell the best and do what’s best for customers, people will want to buy jewelry from you.” More than 100 years later, this guiding principle continues to inspire the extended Betteridge family each day, as they outfit their international clientele in the absolute finest—always with professionalism, respect and great appreciation.
