Tutima Saxon One Chronograph, now in Red

Tutima’s latest Saxon One Chronograph is hard to miss. First seen earlier this year, the 43mm cushion-shaped, steel-cased chronograph balances a scarlet-colored dial with slightly brighter red subdials, all offset with contrasting white seconds indicators and polished hour markers.

As a full-function automatic chronograph, you’ll find the classic timing and counter displays here: hours, minutes, small seconds (at 9 o’clock), date indication (at 3 o’clock), chronograph with central seconds hand, 60-minute counter on outer red flange, and 12-hour counter (at 6 o’clock). There is also a 24-hour display (at 12 o’clock) that can act as a day/night indication. The hands and the dial’s hour indexes are tipped with SuperLuminova.

Based in Glashütte, Tutima specializes in the professional-grade instruments that have characterized watch manufacturing in that German city for more than a century. Thus, all watches in the Saxon One Chronograph collection, inspired by Tutima’s history as a maker of pilot watches, also include a bi-directional rotating bezel with a red reference marker at 12 o’clock for immediate orientation when timing an event. Tutima equips the watch with an ultra-clear domed sapphire crystal complete with anti-reflective coating on both sides.

Caliber Tutima 521, an automatic chronograph movement based on an ETA Valjoux 7750, substantially modified and finished by Tutima, powers the watch. The caliber, with a customized Tutima rotor, is visible through the clear sapphire caseback.

Tutima makes the Saxon One Chronograph on either an integrated red alligator strap, or a choice of interchangeable slate gray alligator strap or stainless-steel bracelet – all with folding clasps. Price: $6,100 (leather strap) and $6,500 (steel bracelet)
