In 1963 the first ever Porsche 911 was designed by Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. It represents pure functionality and the utmost in performance, with black instruments and red pointers inspired by motorsports. It was purely functional. In 1972 he went on to design the first Porsche Design Chronograph I – a watch derived from the distinctive design and functionality of the 911, including its dashboard. The needs of racers combined with F. A. Porsche’s enthusiasm for watches led to the creation of the world’s first all-black chronograph.
