🦉 OWN THE NIGHT WITH RADO - True Square Thinline

With devilishly deep hues, a polished finish and confident pops of colour, the three new editions of the Rado True Square Thinline evoke the allure and excitement of the city after dark. The sights, sounds and energy of our urban playgrounds at nightfall demand something suitably seductive. The minimalist aesthetic of these timepieces, combined with their sleek dimensions and square shape – unmistakably Rado – is guaranteed to stir the senses of night owls everywhere.

The world’s best-known Master of Materials captures the dusk-to-dawn vibe in a polished high-tech ceramic monobloc case and crown, paired with a matching ceramic bracelet. The lustrous finish reflects the light and motion of the evening—when the city truly comes alive. Wrists shimmer in the dazzle of passing traffic, beneath the glow of billboards, and amid the frenzy of flashbulbs on opening night.

Each of these iconic watches makes a bold visual statement—and they’re multi-faceted too. Depending on the nighttime setting, they can exude pure glamour, elegance, and poise. Yet they’re equally at home in more hedonistic surroundings, hinting at a sense of mischief. After all, on the best nights out, anything can happen.

he way they look is only part of the story. As the latest additions to a collection that blends Rado’s iconic True Square and Thinline families, these watches embody 21st-century watchmaking finesse. With Thinline credentials, their cases are a mere 5.0 mm thick. Inside, they house the Rado calibre R420 quartz movement, with 13 jewels, measuring less than a millimetre thick. This pioneering combination, paired with a case size of just 37 x 43.3 mm, is a true feat of miniature engineering and material mastery.

In black, the Rado True Square Thinline is innately stylish. Its sinuous design is exquisitely refined, feeling smooth against the skin. Up close, nuanced details emerge through the flat sapphire crystal, with the subtlety of a sun-brushed black dial and matching black printed indexes. A pop of colour comes from the lacquered hands, available in turquoise or sun orange, alongside a printed Rado logo in matching hues. This high-contrast look—like bright lights in a cityscape—delivers a powerful message: the wearer undeniably owns the night.

Also debuting is the Rado True Square Thinline in a luxurious dark green shade. Its case and crown are crafted from high-tech monobloc ceramic, complemented by a matching ceramic bracelet. The deep, polished finish gives the piece an almost iridescent quality that draws the eye. This version features a green mother-of-pearl dial, adding visual depth alongside tone-on-tone green printed indexes. Lacquered hands in yellow, paired with a matching printed Rado logo, create a striking contrast.

For all three models, a titanium case back and three-fold clasp complete the look. With water resistance up to three bar (30m), they are practical companions—no need to worry if you get caught in a rainstorm.

These new Rado True Square Thinline versions exude contemporary style and sophistication, while being designed for a world where fashion meets comfort. Their versatile styling and practicality make them the perfect companions for nights out in the concrete jungle, ready for whatever the evening brings.

Why High-Tech Ceramic? – Because it feels like nothing else…

This is exactly what Rado high-tech ceramic is all about. It’s why we say, "Feel it." The ancient origins of its base material make its durability almost inevitable, but it’s the expertise of the "Master of Materials" that ensures it holds true. High-tech ceramic is a beautifully light substance, remarkably scratch-resistant, and a testament to exceptional craftsmanship.

On its own, these qualities might be enough to love it. But surprisingly, it doesn’t stop there. High-tech ceramic is not only durable and impervious to almost everything; it also has a rare silkiness to the touch, offering exquisite comfort against the skin. When placed on the wrist—whether fine, large, gentle, or rugged—it feels as if it’s always belonged there. This is particularly true for timepieces that feature ceramic elements in their bracelet, where the sensory experience becomes total and unforgettable.

Rado first introduced high-tech ceramic in 1986. Its sensuous feel, durability, scratch resistance, and surprising light weight quickly captured the hearts of watch enthusiasts worldwide. Though related to common ceramics, high-tech ceramic is truly a product of advanced science.

Under highly controlled conditions, pure and finely calibrated powders of aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide, and silicon nitride—each with uniform grain sizes—are shaped and baked at high temperatures to create a watch case with the desired dimensions and properties. Rado’s innovative methods involve mixing these mineral powders with a plastic carrier medium, allowing them to be injected into precision moulds at pressures around 1000 bar.

Once cooled, the pieces are removed from the mould and the carrier agent is dissolved in a chemical solvent. The final sintering phase occurs at 1450°C, a precisely controlled process that gives high-tech ceramic its extraordinary density and hardness, far surpassing regular ceramics. This process requires expert precision, as the first moulded elements shrink during sintering, with the particles tightening up as porosity disappears. The change in dimensions, roughly 25%, must be calculated carefully to ensure the final product meets exacting standards.

The result? A case that stands at 1,250 on the Vickers scale, ready for final diamond-tool machining and finishing—transforming into an impressive Rado timepiece.
