To celebrate the Chinese New Year (2017 is the year of the rooster) Jaquet Droz introduces four artisanal these Petite Heure Minute Rooster watches in its Ateliers d’Art collection. Two of the models pay tribute to miniature painting and are offered in red gold with an ivory enamel dial and with or without diamonds. The other two models feature Jaquet Droz artists using a miniature sculpture technique on a dial inlaid with jadeite and mother-of-pearl.
The watches with miniature painting feature two Grand Feu enamel dials. These are housed in 39mm and 35mm red gold cases—the latter is set with diamonds. The rooster on these models is also depicted on the underside of the hand-engraved oscillating weight in a watercolor style to echo Chinese calligraphy masterpieces. Look for peonies nearby: They represent springtime renewal.
The miniature sculpture technique was used for the other two precious models. Limited to 28 pieces, these Petite Heure Minute Rooster watches combines volumes of red gold and its unique light with a dial inlaid with jadeite and mother-of-pearl, which are hand-engraved in the Jaquet Droz workshops. The dial is then patinated and hand-painted in monochromatic shades that enhance each relief. Finally, Jaquet Droz has also created a limited edition of eight entirely hand-painted pieces illuminated by glistening rooster feathers. Each watch is powered by a Jaquet Droz self-winding mechanical movement with a balance-spring and pallet-fork made of silicon, a double barrel and a 22-karat red gold oscillating weight. Prices start at $30,200 (39mm painted ivory dial) up to $79,600 (41mm red gold, engraved dial).
