Baume & Mercier’s Frederick Martel Talks Capeland Shelby Cobra Models

President of Baume & Mercier North America, Frederick Martel considers the watchmaker a storyteller. Thus the company decided to partner with one of the most iconic American car brands, Shelby, because of its own history and unique story.

While Baume & Mercier began in 1830 as a family business in Switzerland, Shelby is an American-based car manufacturing company that was founded by automotive designer and racing driver Carroll Shelby. The two companies share the same commitment to quality and have both prospered because of their design and innovation in their respective fields.

Former Shelby Cobra driver, Allen Grant says, “To have Baume and Mercier connect with Shelby is very special and to be part of this is very much an honor.”

The design of the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 watch is a tribute to the Shelby Cobra 289 "Tribute Edition,” with black paint and yellow detailing. And the technical precision of Baume & Mercier matches perfectly with its inspirational championship car. These chronographs are available with a black alligator strap with a rubberized yellow lining or with a black vulcanized rubber strap, both fastened by a triple folding buckle with safety catches. The latter strap is made from the same material as the wheels of the racecar. Each chronograph in the Capeland Shelby® Cobra collection embodies the sheer power and legendary performance of the Cobra.
