This Week in Watches

This Week in Watches features Breitling, Blancpain, Ulysse Nardin and Raymond Weil.

Breitling Navitimer 01

The Navitimer 01 from Breitling is a celebration of the watchmaker’s dedication to the aeronautics, considering the watch is a favorite among enthusiasts and pilots since 1952. What truly stands out about the timepiece is the steel case with the black dial and red hands. The watch is powered by the in-house Breitling 01 movement, which features a chronograph with 1/4 seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours. It is also available in a red gold version with other dial colors. Its bidirectional ratcheted rotating bezel ensures smooth and easy handling of the famous circular aviation slide rule. All of this is placed on a leather, Navitimer or Air Racer strap.

Price: $8,705

Blancpain Ultra-Slim Ladybird

This celebration of Blancpain’s 60-year old model is a limited edition of 60 pieces and celebrates the femininity of the watchmaker. At the time of the Ladybird’s launch, the watch was the smallest round movement on the market. Fast forward to 2016 and the watch continues the legacy of the famous women’s watch. The dial is made from mother-of-pearl set with diamonds and is powered by the 15.7mm thin Calibre 6150 movement. The diamond weight on the dial is .011 and on the case is .534. The watch is placed on a crocodile leather strap.

Ulysse Nardin Royal Python Skeleton Tourbillon

The light passing through this open-worked timepiece creates an airy feeling in the face of a reptilian theme. Those scales are hand painted on the movement bridges, and they match the genuine python strap of this 44mm rose gold limited edition of eighteen. The watch features Ulysse Nardin’s own Caliber UN-170 Manufacture that offers a flying tourbillon with the balance spring, anchor and escapement wheel made of silicon, the high-tech material Ulysse Nardin helped pioneer for use in wristwatches.

Price: $75,000

Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton

This new 42.5mm PVD-coated steel case watch from Raymond Weil is black and gold inside and out. The black case surrounds the rose-gold- plated central hour, minute and second hands and indexes. Two sapphire crystals seal these visible components through a wide aperture on the black galvanic dial to offer a nice view of the circular-grained bridges and ruthenium finish of the Swiss Made skeleton movement. Freelancer was launched in 2006 and is now a best seller for the brand. This model this year celebrates a decade of Freelancer as well as the fortieth anniversary of Raymond Weil as a watchmaking brand.

Price: $2,595.
