Baume & Mercier announces its first-ever mechanical movement, the Clifton Baumatic (BM12-1975A) created in collaboration with the Richemont Research & Innovation team. Baume & Mercier is the first and only Richemont brand with this technology for the foreseeable future. The new movement offers: Strong antimagnetism (1,500 Gauss), long power reserve (120 hours, or 5 days), COSC precision (-4/+6 seconds/day), a silicon hairspring, anchor and escape wheel--and no service needed for 5 years.
Richemont also redesigned the hairspring with a composite structure, combining two cores of silicon, alternately set at a 45° angle and bound by a silicon dioxide layer that also plays a role in ensuring thermocompensation. This design, called Twinspire, is said by the firm to improve accuracy of the movement in various positions and over the long term, reduce sensitivity to magnetism and offer greater resistance to small impacts and repeated vibrations.
The Clifton Baumatic Collection will include five styles (starting at $2,590, available September 2018) and will be revealed in full next week at SIHH. We'll have more about these new Clifton watches as well as information and images about all the Baume & Mercier 2018 debuts next week.
