Ochs and Junior in New York

One of the many interesting facets of Ochs and Junior watches, the independent collection that combines the talents of Ludwig Oechslin, Beat Weinmann, Paul Gerber and a host of very localized Swiss talent, is its transparency. On the firm’s entertaining website you’ll find the names of every single Ochs and Junior contributor and supplier, including a picture of the young man who stamps the leather brands on the Swiss cow straps. Company conceptualizer Beat Weinmann was recently in New York explaining his firm’s minimalistic and holistic design focus and its simple-is-best mechanical strategy that features fewer components without sacrificing performance or beauty.

An example? The new Selene Tinta, pictured here, is the most accurate moon phase indicator ever incorporated within a wristwatch– and this accuracy requires only five components.

“The luna 7 is accurate to within exactly two seconds per lunation, which is one in 1,270,411.5 days or 43,020.189 lunations or 3478.27 years,” according to Oechslin.
See for yourself.

Beat Weinmann explains Ochs and Junior’s unusual manufacturing and marketing concepts to a young visitor in New York last week.
